i've seen many comments, questions, and answers about "designer dogs" and about how they are so much cuter than the actual 2 dogs they are made of. but who in their right mind would believe such a thing. i admit i had bred designer dogs (called rorkies. they are a mix between a yorkie and a rat terrier). but as soon as i found out that my aunt gave away my precious Duma (one of my rorkies) because she thought he was "just a mutt". i was hurt. and it all happened because of an actual "designer dog". i got my rat terrier fixed that way she can never have puppies again. but i still feel like this "designer dog" stuff is a load of crap that will get ignorant people to actually think they are pure breeds. take a look at this: http://www.nextdaypets.com/directory/breeds/1100362/
what is a st berdoodle? just another mutt that is bred to looke like a pure bred to get ignorant people to pay thousands of dollars for when it probably came from a puppy mill by accident. what do you guys think??
i am so against "designer dogs". i didnt breed the "rorkies" on purpose. honestly speaking, the 11 puppies were all born by accident. and i did not make a profit out of them. they were all FREE!!! we didnt sell a single one of them!!!

Why are designer dogs such a big trend?

Last year, I went to a pet shop and fell in love with a yorkie-bichon mix. She was hiding in the corner of the window, looking so depressed. I asked to see her, and she turned out to be the love of my life. She cost me ,000 but she was well worth it because she is a wonderful, loving dog. And I figured, pet shops are very expensive as is - I just wanted to get her out of there and share with her lovable personality. She is my best friend and worth every penny.

After, a few months, I started hearing all this fuss over designer dogs. It wasn't until my friend sarcastically said of course I'd have a designer dog to go with my designer stocked closet. I'm like, what are you talking about? She's a mutt! Haha. People haven't mixed yorkies and bichons before? When did this become "in"?

I don't understand the fuss over this new "trend" known as designer dogs. What makes it so special? How did this start? Don't get me wrong, I adore my pup, but because of her personality, not breed!
Oh wow. =( I didn't know. ,000 is a lot of a poochie, I know, but her love makes up for it so I'm not concerned. I just hope people buying into these dogs can afford it and don't put themselves into debt over a cute puppy. That really would be bad. ='( You guys are very informative!
Hypo-allergenic? Please, my Daisy still makes me sneeze and so does my purebred Bichon. Haha. Frebreeze Allergin Reducer is my friend! I researched to see if mine has a fancy name... it's a Yo-Chon. Wow, where do people come up with this stuff? Seriously - she's a mutt!!! Haha.

Poochon & Shorkie

Precious is an adult Yorkshire terrier and Shih tzu mix. Daisy is a new addition to our family and she is a Bichon Frise and Poodle mix. I love "designer dogs" because in my experience they have the best of both worlds. Precious likes to play and run around outside like most terriers, but she is very calm and like to lay around in the house. She does not shed; or I should say shed very little because all dogs shed and she only barks when someone is at the door. Daisy is new to our family and so far she has a delightful temperment and it was easy to potty train. I was a bit nervouse because I was told Bichon Frise are difficult to housetrain, but she is doing well so far. She also does not shed or I should say shed very little, because all dogs shed and does not bark. Of course she is young yet so we will see. The biggest issue with having these types of dogs are grooming costs. They are not too expensive since they are small dogs, but because their hair does not fall off they have to have their coats trimmed every 4-8 weeks
