This is for breeders of designer dogs. Can you tell me why would you want to breed designer dogs?

I have seen these dogs sell for a lot of money and I always thought people would not buy a dog unless it was AKC. I have seen quite a few designer dogs, but I can't understand the high prices for them. please enlighten me. Thanks

Everyone has a certain breed of dog that they love. Mine is the Berner. When I see so called "breeders" mixing them with GSD's,. Border Collies, Golden Retrievers, Poodles, Mastiffs etc It REALLY bothers me!! These 'breeders' come up with some kind of 'reason' as to why the 'designer' dogs are better then the original breed. They think that mixing 2 breeds, charging $$$$ is IMPROVING what already is...
Just like any breed of dog, Berners are known for their striking appearance. Why mess with it???? What are they doing mixing all these other breeds into it? What is the point, other then money, creating 'something' new..

What do you see happening with your breed of choice?

Sorry, Yes, I am talking about a Bernese Mtn dog....

I seen this breeder that bred Huskies and Berners. Had a litter of Berners she was selling as purebred with AKC papers, but you could tell they had Husky mixed in with them.

Its a shame for people that don't do their homework, spend ,500 for a 'purebred' that is really a mutt and the worst thing is, I have seen these dogs on Petfinder up for adoption..

So the whole designer dog fad is staring to really pi$$ me off.All these dogs and there stupid made up names and some of them just were not fought about before they were bred.Take the juggle what idiot breeds a hyper dog with a dog with breathing problems that is a genetic disaster.There are loads of other stupid mixes like the

Great doodle - great dane poodle mix
weimerdoodle - obvious what mix this is
doberdoodle pincher - Doberman poodle mix
there is a lot more i could say i think ive even heard of some idiot trying to breed Miniature great danes.What is your opinion on the whole issue and what are some stupid mixes you have heard of.

Anybody alse want to murder all deisgner dog breeders? I'm getting so incredibly sick of see's all these dumb pointless mixes that are indeed NOT hypoallergenic or proven to have good temperments. And then again,who are all the dumb idiots that buy these dogs? Anybody else want to share their anger?

Do you believe the hype of "These Dogs are very popular and rising well ahead of purebred dogs"? Or do you think it is just a way of marketing puppies to unknowledgable people?

What about the claim that, "In breeding two different dogs you get a little of both to make one great new breed." How can this be possible? Isn't genetics a crap shoot at best? Isn't it just as likely that the puppies will get a little bit of both and make one miserable dog?

What do you think?
I have nothing against the dogs themselves, just the people who intentionally irresponsibly breed them.

For example, I know of one breeder of these mixed breeds who has a "play yard" that is 15 X 25 feet all in cement! Ummmm, I would think the dogs would rather play in soft grass, not hard concrete!

Last year, I went to a pet shop and fell in love with a yorkie-bichon mix. She was hiding in the corner of the window, looking so depressed. I asked to see her, and she turned out to be the love of my life. She cost me ,000 but she was well worth it because she is a wonderful, loving dog. And I figured, pet shops are very expensive as is - I just wanted to get her out of there and share with her lovable personality. She is my best friend and worth every penny.

After, a few months, I started hearing all this fuss over designer dogs. It wasn't until my friend sarcastically said of course I'd have a designer dog to go with my designer stocked closet. I'm like, what are you talking about? She's a mutt! Haha. People haven't mixed yorkies and bichons before? When did this become "in"?

I don't understand the fuss over this new "trend" known as designer dogs. What makes it so special? How did this start? Don't get me wrong, I adore my pup, but because of her personality, not breed!
Oh wow. =( I didn't know. ,000 is a lot of a poochie, I know, but her love makes up for it so I'm not concerned. I just hope people buying into these dogs can afford it and don't put themselves into debt over a cute puppy. That really would be bad. ='( You guys are very informative!
Hypo-allergenic? Please, my Daisy still makes me sneeze and so does my purebred Bichon. Haha. Frebreeze Allergin Reducer is my friend! I researched to see if mine has a fancy name... it's a Yo-Chon. Wow, where do people come up with this stuff? Seriously - she's a mutt!!! Haha.
