What is the point of having designer dogs?
Why would you want a puggle?
Why would you breed a lab and a poodle?
I am just confused as to why people go around purposely mixing dogs!

What type of collar do you use for your dog?
Do you leave it on all the time? Or just when the dog is out of the house? (Obviously it's not safe to leave collars on dogs in crates.)
Is there any collar you refuse to use, or hate when other people use?
Now that microchipping is becoming so popular and affordable, are collars becoming obsolete?
I usually leave my dogs' collars on, with the exception of my standard poodle. I worry that his fur could get matted with the collar rubbing on it all the time, and so I leave it off a lot unless we are going somewhere. I was just wondering what everyone else thought about collars. ![]()
To clarify, I don't mean collars obsolete as in not having a dog on lead, I meant it more as 'for identification' purposes.
Obviously dogs should always be on the leash when not in their yard/home.
You people can be so nitpicky sometimes.
Who breeds designer dogs? Do you make more money than with the other types? I know they are popular?
And to do it, do you get two purebreds or do you start with a designer pair and breed them? Like if I want a maltipoo do I start with a maltese and a poodle? Or do I start with two maltipoos? How much can you sell them for?
Thankyou?
You are mean and rude. No wonder everyone says this place is mean.
So the whole designer dog fad is staring to really pi$$ me off.All these dogs and there stupid made up names and some of them just were not fought about before they were bred.Take the juggle what idiot breeds a hyper dog with a dog with breathing problems that is a genetic disaster. There are loads of other stupid mixes like the

sorry i rit juggle it was meant to be puggle
The major con of designer dogs is the price. Most designer dogs cost upwards of 0, whereas many purebred dogs begin at 0. (Of course, mixed breed dogs are widely available for adoption, typically at prices set by rescue groups or animal shelters.)
Although each designer dog was bred for specific appearance and traits, there's a good chance that some or all of them will not develop in the offspring. Mixing breeds is chancy, because the outcome is not absolute. Although purebred dog offspring will always mature to appear like the parent dogs, the hybrid offspring may appear more like one parent than the other, or have a personality more like one parent than the other. So, although you might be searching for a small Yorkipoo, the pup might grow up to be the size of a large Yorkshire Terrier instead of a Teacup Poodle.
As much as the breeders of designer dogs claim that mixing two breeds improves the offspring's overall health, that presumption is debatable. Although many of the puppies don't show symptoms of the recessive genetic dysfunctions commonly seen in purebred dogs, many other puppies do. In fact, a hybrid puppy can have the poor luck to inherit the worst physical and temperament traits of both parents.
Why do people buy into the DESIGNER DOG crap? It's so much better to go down to your local animal shelter and adopt a dog from there. The majority of the dogs are mixed breeds anyhow just like designer dogs.
1. Why are so many designer dogs Mixed with either Chihuahua are Poodle?
2. Do you noticed the increased amount of small dogs in shelters? At one point in time you would rarely see a Chihuahua in a shelter but now...their getting up their with the Pit Bulls and German Sheps...in shelter population.
3. Do you notice that BYB'ers and Puppy Mills target small dogs more then they target larger breed ones..?
4. Most Small dogs seem more likely to be humanize babied..ect?
5.Why are people trying to breed a MINI everything...?? If you surf the web or get on http://www.kijiji.com you find advertisements for miniature Rottweilers, Pit Bulls? Basically Whats people fascination with breeding tiny mutts, first you hear the teacup, then you hear the mini..Now you hear the MICRO MINI...?
6. Is it just me are are BYB's breeding dogs to the point where they are non fuctional???? Can't move ect...
7. Why do some sites like http://www.dogbreedinfo.com or http://www..nextdaypets.com recognize and have definitions for designer or mutt dogs that have no meaning.???
8. Do you believer that the reason puppy mills and pet stores exist is because people want " small cheap pure bred dogs" and cannot afford to buy a health one from a reputable breeder or are to snobby do adopt?
9. Why is their this myths about shelter dogs being bad to get??..I know you've heard it before..Shelter dogs have disease, and shelter dogs are aggressive ect...
I was just wondering if anyone else out there gets outraged when they hear people use the term designer dog. I work at a dog store (no not petland we sell apparel, toys, etc.). When customers ask what kind of dog I have I say he what he is-american eskimo, min. poodle, bischon mix so basically a mutt. I have had some people go "oh well I have a designer dog he's a labardoddle (or another kind) (sp?)". And if they are really snippy with me I say "Yep guess mine's a designer too I guess he is a ekibipoo!" Then kind of laugh! I'm sorry but you're dog is a mutt! I know certain dogs are breed to by hypoallergenic and all that but it is still a mutt! I love mutts nothing wrong with them! There is nothing designer about a dog! It enrages me to think that someone is paying 0 or more for a mutt! Believe me a dog is priceless no matter what! Mine is spoiled rotten! What are your feelings?
I am so glad I am not alone! I feel like I only know a few ppl that feel the same as me!
Whoever thought it was a good idea to breed a pug w/ a beagle, a golden retriever with a POODLE, a lab with a poodle, and so on is a moron. those breeds should have never been mixed. Oh and also- there is no such thing as a "purebred" goldendoodle, etc.
Ok-- that's what I meant-- the stupid people breeding them for the money.. etc.
I have a pekignese and a poodle mix. It is called a pekapoo and I bought it for 400 dollars. It is a small dog. Is it considered a designer dog? If it is why? And why do people not like them?
Give some examples of designer dogs.....
I’m not talking about whether or not they make good pets (because I’m sure they do), but about your opinion of the phenomenon itself. About the practice of breeding two specific breeds together to “create” a new “breed,” and people actually accepting it as such. Traditionally, this is not how breeds were created. Different breeds were often bred together to develop new ones, yes, but it was usually many different breeds, and it was done over a number of years, carefully, to reach a new breed, usually for a specific purpose. Breed A and breed B were not just “stuck” together to get breed C. It seems to be getting more and more popular, and you even have people insisting that one day, Goldendoodles for example, will be “real” recognized breeds by the AKC, and similar organizations.
So what do you think? Are these “designer” breeds just mutts, or something more? Do you think this is a harmless practice, a beneficial practice, or just needlessly creating more mutts?
And, why is a Golden Retriever/Poodle mix a real breed to some people, but to the very same people, a Cocker Spaniel/Fox Terrier mix is just a mutt? Why is a Chihuahua/Pomeranian mix not a mutt, while a Lab/Afghan mix is? That seems like a blatant double standard to me.
Goldengal, I'm not sure who you might be thinking of, but I'm quite sure I have never asked this question before.
Wild and Free, a Goldendoodle is a Golden Retriever/Poodle mix, and a Labradoodle is a Lab/Poodle mix, as far as I’m aware.
