do you think any of the designer dogs will wind up as real breeds?
Do you think a designer "breed" such as the labradoodle will ever be considered by the AKC as a real breed like labs or dobermans? Just wondering. No flames please.

Ok so everyone one here fusses about designer dogs because supposedly they are all puppy mill mutts. Ok i don't agree with that statement, but i'm not gonna argue the fact that some breeders are running puppy mills. Ok on to my question, if you have 2 purebred dogs, different breeds and they mate to have a "designer breed". If that designer breed dog mates with another one of the same designer breed, and so on and so on down through the generations, when will that breed quit being referred to as a "mutt" and be considered a purebred.
Ok i'm so sick of the stuck up my dogs better than your dog cause someone created him 100 years ago BS on here get over yourself... stick with the question or dont bother to answer! BTW your dog is a mutt too it didn't just appear as a purebred out of thin air, just cause the AKC recognizes it doesnt make it any better than any other dog AKC registered or not!
btw, i'm not a breeder and don't plan on breeding, 2nd I didn't get a designer dog because i thought it was cool, i got a chiweenie, cause it belonged to a friend who couldnt keep it and i saved it from going to the shelter, 3rd i've had purebred dogs my entire life, and i can honestly say i've never owned a purebred that was smarter or better tempered than my mixed breed.
why do ppl buy these "designer dogs"? they are just mutts! your a sucker if you pay hudred or thousand of dollars for them. dont believe me? look at this web page...and then tell me im wrong!

i have a mix breed...she is chihuahua/dachshund...what idiots are calling a "doxiechi" or "chishund" and charging up to 0.00 for. she looks exactly like this "designer breed's" breeders say they should. know where WE found her..at the pound 1 day shy of being destroyed. her adoption fee was .00!
a_rivers1968, a Maltese is NOT a designer dog. that is a purebreed dog that is recognized by the AKC (american kennle club) and "designer dog" would be if you breed your maltese to a chihuahua...and then called the pups a "maltchi" which btw they do...and them charge $$$ for it.

thats crazy! but then puppies from pet store come from puppy mills...horrible places!

im know very well that every dog on this planet was a "mix" and was bred into a purebreed over time. I AM also aware that we no longer breed for the true USE of the dog anymore. example: Dalmations are breed for compainion dogs...they are no longer used as "guard dogs" the ride along under horse drawn carriages anymore.
this said...i find it HIGHLY irresposible to breed without function, first of all, and second i find is immoral to breed while SHETLER DOGS DIE!
I know that this has been on here before, but I have to raise the question again to see some different answers. It's not that I'm against cross-breeding, etc. - I've owned both shelter dogs/mixes and pedigrees, and I think that either can be the best companions. I feel that genetically engineered dogs with "designer" names are a scam to get more money for "mutts." I have a Pit Bull/Schnauzer mix... could I breed her with another and call her a Schnitt Bull, or perhaps a Bull Schnitt, and push for the AKC to register the breed to make money?
No flames please... just my opinion. How do you all feel about it?
Just to clarify - my pup has been spayed since she was 9 weeks old - I couldn't leave the shelter with her unless she was (or it would have been done, just not so early). I, by no means, am intending to breed her as a "designer dog" - it was just a sarcastic example.
And with my saying that I'm not against cross-breeding - I just mean that I'm not a pedigree snob... I'm a "dog-lover" and to me that means that I'll love a mutt and a pedigree all the same!
I don't get what the big rage is about these 'designer' mutts.
Someone please explain to me why people would pay over 0 for a dog with no breed standard, no record of health issues, and no chance of being registered with the AKC? Why would people pay over ,000 for them? Anyone could take a grade Yorkshire Terrier and cross it with any other small dog..
What is so special about these 'designer' dogs?
Sometimes, expensive can mean good.
When you pay 00 for a puppy and get an AKC eligible pup from very strong show lines, a two year health guarantee, and the assurance that your dog meets the breed standard.. That's a well-spent 00.
At what point does the AKC recognize a mixed dog as being a pure bred dog? I only ask because aren't a lot of pure bred dogs derived from the long time mixing of different breeds.
Sorry if this is a stupid question.
